Grácio Freitas

Born in the heart of the Douro wine region, Portuguese artist Grácio Freitas has always had a natural talent for handicraft work, in addition to a strong liking for technical and visual arts. 

In spite of a military career in the Navy, he always felt himself leaning towards creative work, so much so that in 1990 this desire became so strong that he felt compelled to switch careers.

A painter of light and colour, Grácio Freitas works with acrylics, drawing according to his own codes and artistic references. Although a figurative painter, it is colour that seems to be the focus of his work, and the use of colour and the resulting energy in the painting take a central role. 

The light emanating from his paintings also highlights the incredible range of colours that he generously applies, but always with a subtle and delicate touch.

Often featured in collective and solo exhibitions, as well as in national competitions, he has received several awards and special mentions.
