Born in Lisbon in 1972 João Simões joined to the Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon in the Electrotenic Engineering course.
After 3 years he decides to follow the dream of art and joins to the National Society of Arts where he takes courses in Drawing With a Model and History of Art, followed with the Scientific Illustration course at the Autonomous University of Lisbon.
Being a hyper realistic painter, he specialized in illustration and representation of nature.
It shows preference for the Scratchboard technique that was rediscovered in the 1980s of the last century and which consists of direct engraving on a card board with plaster.
It is a technique very popular between the illustrators as final art and much appreciated by scientific illustrators for the great detail it allows to achieve.
Usual presence in collective and individual exhibitions as UIVO 8, EMARP, Wild Mountain, Life Science Center in Lagos and the National Museum of History and Natural Science.
